Walter Grzanka, 45, white, initially reported as shot by police, then changed to shot by store owner, during apparent looting of Temple Market at 2844 Fourth. Dead on arrival at 12:25 a.m. at Detroit General Hospital, he was the first reported fatality of the conflict.

Sharon George, 23, white, shot while a passenger in a car that was stopped in traffic on Woodward near Virginia Park. Shooting attributed to sniper fire. Died at 1:30 a.m. at Highland Park General Hospital about two hours after being shot.

Clifton Pryor, 23, white, shot around 3 a.m. while he and others were descending from the roof of four-story apartment building at 667 W. Alexandrine, where he was a tenant. Guardsman reportedly mistook him for a sniper.

Fred Williams, 49, black, hit by fallen power line fighting a fire at his home at 9541 Goodwin around 8 a.m. Body found in alley east of Oakland.

Nathaniel Edmonds, 23, black, shot in late afternoon while in backyard of house at 6478 Baldwin by man who had pulled up in car in a nearby alley, got out, accused Edmonds of breaking into his store, then opened fire with shotgun. Died an hour later at Detroit General Hospital.

Jack Sydnor, 38, black, fell to his death about 9:30 p.m. from his third floor apartment at 2753 Hazelwood after being wounded by police, who said he was a sniper.

Willie McDaniels, 23, black, died late in the evening at Detroit General Hospital, a day after he was found on Forest following an exchange of gunfire between snipers and police near a looted furniture store on Gratiot near Canton.

27 July 26, 1:20 a.m.

Tanya Blanding, 4, black, was dead on arrival at Ford Hospital about 1:20 a.m., after being shot while she slept in apartment at 1756 W. Euclid. Shots reportedly fired by guardsman who mistook someone lighting cigarette in unit for a sniper. A Guard report stated shooting had been reported twice before from apartment.

Aubrey Pollard, 19, Carl Cooper, 17, and Fred Temple, 18

Aubrey Pollard, 19, Carl Cooper, 17, and Fred Temple, 18, all black, shot about 2 a.m. when Guard troops and police in search of snipers raid the Manor House, an annex unit of the Algiers Motel at Virginia Park and Woodward. Three police and private guard charged and ultimately acquitted in the deaths.

Helen Hall, 51, white, shot in early morning while watching gunfire from her fourth floor unit at the Harlan House Motel, 6500 John Lodge. Connecticut resident was reportedly in town on business.

William Dalton, 19, black, shot, dead on arrival at Northwest General Hospital at 2:20 a.m. His body was found at Grand River and Edmonton.

Willie Hunter, 26, and Prince Williams, 31, both black. Their bodies were found in early afternoon in the rubble of Brown’s Drugs, at 8202 12th St., three days after a fire at the looted store.

Larry Post, 26, white, guardsman died at 4:45 a.m. at Ford Hospital of gunshot wound suffered July 26. He’d reportedly been caught in crossfire when car ignored roadblock on Dexter near Richton.

43 Aug. 14

Roy Banks, 46, black, shot about 4:30 a.m. July 25 by guardsmen as he walked past looted tavern on Mack at Rohns to take bus to work. He died weeks later at Detroit General Hospital.
